It’s a fascinating matchup in the ALDS, starting with how different the Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers are in terms of strengths and modus operandi.

The Mariners have rotation depth, three of the best late-inning relievers in the circuit, and a deep lineup with a balance of power, speed, and matchup versatility that may be the best in the league.

The Tigers are top-heavy in the rotation, spread out high-leverage bullpen spots to more arms, but have been more inconsistent offensively (.239/.309/.398 since August 1).

The equalizer, however, may be in a Tigers’ uniform: Seattle U product Tarik Skubal, the soon-to-be two-time Cy Young winner.
